self soothing glee

I have been gone for some time, as you can see, from this blogging bit and I return with this moment of joy. The first time little S self soothed and fell asleep without us bouncing on the yoga ball (usually paired with singing, shhhhhing, swaddling and/or nursing, usually a combination of a few of those).  It was so monumental that I had to take a photo of it in the mirror.

During my blogging absence she was born and has been growing with strength and vigor. We are very proud that she is in the 90th percentile for height and weight. Some how it seems that any thing that defines your baby (“oh, she has such big cheeks”) is most certainly something to be proud of. I’ve had a number of people, usually mamas with grown children that congratulate my lactation. I accept the compliment but it’s not as if I selected a good recipe and then baked a wonderful meal with skill and experience to make up the best breast milk. I guess I’m just a sucker and let her eat whenever she wants, which happens to be every hour still. I’ve been told that she will soon outgrow this need for such a constant supply of nourishment and I’m waiting.

In the last few weeks I have been able to do some knitting and just a wee bit of sewing. It feels good to be back to something that I love and makes me feel more like the Katie I remember. Perhaps I will see you around her regularly again while I type with one hand and nurse with the other.

Where Am I?
